I attended Houston Community College and studied issues related to wellness, stress relief, and the impact of stress on the body. As a result of my work, I was invited to be an Honor’s student. This opportunity gave me great incentive and opportunity to write papers and education modules on all of the issues I had a passion for. After I graduated with High Honors I was able to use the education modules I created to visit rehab centers and the Texas Prison System to present health and wellness education. These opportunities were a true blessing to me. You could say that it launched me into a career in wellness and health.
I then started managing a wellness clinic for chronically ill patients. Along with managing the clinic I also became a personal trainer. Our clinic offered rehab in physical therapy, weight and exercise training, nutrition counseling, chiropractic treatment, and massage therapy. Very comprehensive! To see the improvements of my clients was extremely gratifying. Many of my patients were completely functional again after being disabled for such a long time.
Later, I was asked to help organize a personal training team for a local gym. That was so much fun! My manager/mentor taught me so much about the body, weight training, and form, comprehensive stretching, and many other modalities that I use to this day. I have been a personal trainer for 20 years now.
The physical, spiritual, and emotional aspects of our lives are so intrinsically intertwined. Stress tends to accumulate in the body, over time. I believe this is where disease can begin.
I really enjoy being a Reiki Master Teacher…
Clients with a full spectrum of issues come to see me. It is so wonderful to see clients who are having challenges relax during a Reiki session, allowing the Chi (Universal) energy to work its magic. So many wonderful people have come to see me with hope in their eyes. I first tell them that they are loved by their Creator beyond comprehension. Then I explain that same love from their Creator is what I will use, through the amazing power of Reiki, to bring the healing they seek. The power of Reiki uses me as a channel – that is extremely humbling.
Training students to become a Reiki Practitioner is an amazing experience.
Some people only want Reiki Level One Certification (there are three levels), where they can learn the history and also become attuned to work on themselves and others. One mother came to the class so that she could work on her children. Others want to move on to Reiki Level Two, where you can learn about ancient symbols that can only be used by attuned practitioners. Finally, I have certified students as Reiki Masters.
My life as a Reiki Master Teacher…
Reiki has made my life so exciting! This week, as I write this, I have done Reiki on a 6 week old newborn in ICU. Last week I worked with a 21 year old Dreamer who is terrified ICE is coming to get her anytime. I have, in the last few months, worked with 4 stage-four cancer patients. A successful, professional woman broke down and told me her terrible Secret — that she was gay. I am currently working with two Reiki Master Students, one of which will start her own Reiki practice back home in England. I see people cry and come alive. I have seen people realize they are “asleep” and I have witnessed them waking up! I have worked with a heroin addict who has stayed clean since we started working together. I could go on and on. Each and every person that walks in my door hears from me that they are loved by their Creator — that there is no need for fear, secrets, holding on to the past. Reiki has brought so many breakthroughs, all here in the safety of my simple little home. It is an honor and very humbling to see it all. I’m just a channel. Spirit does all the work!
